Queensland Government are changing the drink driving laws and there are a few changes that you need to know.

From Friday 10 September 2021, if you’re charged with drink driving, it will be mandatory to do either an online questions or in person program depending on whether it’s your first offence or if it’s a repeat offence. The full details of the programs are to be released later in September.

Queensland Minister Mark Bailey said mid-range drink drivers make up more than a quarter of all drink driving charges and they have a crash risk 20 times greater than someone who hasn’t had a drink.

To help combat those statistics, the laws for mid-range drink drivers are changing too.

If you return a blood alcohol content of 0.10 (previously .15) or more you’ll have an interlock device fitted to your car.  To unlock the car, you’ll need to pass a breath test on the interlock machine.  You’ll also need to show a consistent record of clear breath tests over time on that machine.
